Get involved with Killamarsh Conservatives if there are there things about Killamarsh you would like to change for the better!
Being part of and active in the Killamarsh branch of the Conservative Party also means your efforts can also help the district of NE Derbyshire, and our beloved county of Derbyshire.
Killamarsh members are already working hard across the village, listening to resident’s ideas and suggestions, to improve the village for all residents.
We think that’s worth standing for, and working for! If you agree, we’d love to hear from you.
There are many and different ways you can help keep our area Conservative.
Join our happy band and help deliver leaflets, learn how to face-to-face canvass or telephone canvassing. Help in the backroom by helping with the organisation.
Even stand as a candidate to help your fellow marshians. It’s a real buzz helping your fellow residents!
The tiers of local government that affect Killamarsh
There are three tiers of local government that directly affect Killamarsh; County Council, District Council and Parish Council.
Killamarsh has joined Renishaw to create a division where just one County Councillor represents our two fine villages.
A County Council is responsible for:
- education
- transport
- planning
- fire and public safety
- social care
- libraries
- waste management
- trading standards
NE Derbyshire District Council
Killamarsh returns 5 councillors to North East Derbyshire District Council; three from Killamarsh West and two from Killamarsh East. The next elections will be in May 2027. But it is never too early to work towards elections. If you feel like you want to make a difference please join us!
A District Councils is responsible for:
- rubbish collection
- recycling
- Council Tax collections
- housing
- planning applications
Killamarsh returns 15 councillors to Killamarsh Parish Council; nine from Killamarsh West and six from Killamarsh East. The next elections will be in May 2027. There are no expenses provided to a parish councillor.
Seemingly the poorer cousin of the other tiers of local government, there is however much satisfaction to be had in helping residents in Killamarsh. You can make an impact in the village if you can persuade your fellow councillors to agree to your ideas.
A parish council is responsible for:
- public clocks
- bus shelters
- community centres
- play areas and play equipment
- grants to help local organisations
- consultation on neighbourhood planning
- allotments
How could you get involved and help us?
Get involved with Killamarsh Conservatives in one or all of the following ways:
As a Deliverer
You would be responsible for a small area of houses in Killamarsh and would undertake to deliver newsletters to those voters when needed. Usually four times a year, plus extra deliveries at election time.
At Local Campaign Days
Councillors and local activists are often out campaigning in groups in the community, whether that means leafleting, canvassing or fundraising. These days are usually followed by a pub lunch or a drink, and are a great way to get some exercise!
As a Canvasser
Carrying out surveys/canvassing in your area in order to gain information about Killamarsh’s concerns and voting intentions. This information enables us to campaign effectively and helps to increase our membership base.
As a Fundraiser
Many people find they have hidden talents and get involved helping to organise the varied social events that take place throughout the year. Everyone involved, whether organising, attending or assisting with the event on the day is helping to raise funds for the Party and enjoying themselves in the process.
As a Poster Displayer
Displaying a poster in your garden or window during an election period can be really helpful to your candidates and campaigns. All you need to do is sign up and tell us where you’d like the poster. When the time is right we’ll come and erect it, and take it down for you after polling day.
As a Donor
Unlike the Labour Party, who have the unions to bankroll their campaigns, we rely on the support of local residents and businesses to ensure we continue to be able to campaign on the issues that really matter in our area and stand up for our communities. If you can help us, please get in touch.
As a Council Candidate
